Twenty Years Later: Reflecting on Two Decades of Living Fully with Epilepsy, Raising a Family, Building a Career, and Becoming an Unexpected Advocate for My Community

A two-decade retrospective on diagnosis, motherhood, advocacy work, and everything in between — plus a few things I wish someone had told me on day one.

Twenty years ago this month, I had my first seizure in a university lecture hall. I remember the fluorescent lights, the confusion, and — honestly — the embarrassment more than the fear.

Here’s what two decades taught me:

  1. Your triggers change over time. Track them anyway.
  2. "Normal" is whatever works for you.
  3. Community isn’t optional — find your people.

To anyone newly diagnosed: it gets easier. I promise.
